UST Assessment - Organics
TMI’s analytical capabilities are a valued asset to those environmental engineers, geologists and other environmental assessment professionals who are investigating leaking underground fuel storage tanks—LUST program. The need for accurate, quality-assured laboratory data, indicating the levels of volatile organic compounds, such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes and methyl tertiary butyl ether in water and/or soil, is satisfied by TMI’s sophisticated gas chromatography (GC)/mass spectrometry (MS) instrumentation. Separate GC/MS instrumentation systems are maintained and utilized for the analysis of semi-volatile organic compounds.
Levels of analytical detection are in the parts per million (PPM) or parts per billion (PPB) range depending on the particular compound(s) and the matrix (soil, water, other) being analyzed.
Analyses in support of LUST projects can be augmented with metals analyses, where appropriate. All metals analysis is achieved via the use of inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and graphite furnace atomic absorption (GFAA) instrumentation. The levels of detection for a wide variety of metals, including but not limited to, arsenic, chromium, copper, lead, silver, mercury and zinc are in the parts per million (PPM) or parts per billion (PPB) range depending on the matrix.
